STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF USING ENGLISH SONGS IN LEARNING LISTENING SKILL
This study explored students' perceptions of using English song while learning listening skill at a Junior High School in Indonesia. The researcher applied a qualitative research method with narrative inquary as research design. The eight grade of Junior High School students were the partisipants of this study. There were six students who were recruited purposively. Semi structure interview and focus group discussion (FGD) used as data collection. The data analysed through thematic analysis. The result of this study described that most of the students perceived a positive view and negative view in regard with learning listening using song. The most common reasons why they have a positive perception are it can build students' motivation and cheer them up, in addition to it makes students more concerned with theories and more easy going although there are also a few children who view it negatively, making the classroom experience more entertaining and increasing their enthusiasm in learning. Among 6 students only two students who have the negative perception, they pointed out that teaching listening using songs was very uncomfortable because sometimes the music was so loud that make students can't hear what wass being said, not only that, practicing listening using songs really ruins their focus because it's too noisy.
