INVESTIGATING THE STUDENTS' LACK INTEREST OF READING THE ENGLISH TEXT: A CASE STUDY AT A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL IN INDONESIA
The aim of this research was to describe the factors that causes students' lack interest in reading the English texts. The qualitative approach with case study design was the research method, the participants were the 8th grade of junior high school students. Data were collected through interview and Focus Group Discussion. The interactive data analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings show that the lack of student interest can be caused by three factors namely individual (Internal) interest, situational (external) interest and topical interest. The finding revealed that the individual interest (internal factor) was the dorninant factor that causes students lack interest like lack of fondness, willingness, awareness, lack of pleasant of reading English text, and lack involvement in reading activities at class. This internal factor was actually caused by their external factor, among four categories (Teacher, family, library and friends) school environment like teacher and library were the most factor that causes students lack interest in reading. Students claimed that they get less supportive school environment such having a low culture of reading at school, not provided an interesting English book like fiction books (fable, novels, short stories, legends) In addition to the teacher teaching method while teaching reading were not stimulate students' interest. The last factor is topical interest factor, most of the students asserted that due to unavailability of English fiction book both in the library or in class, the topic of the English textbooks seemed very tiresome and this made students were not interest in reading the English text
