THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY AND WRITING ABILITY OF THE NINTH GRADE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL AT AN ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL
This study explores the relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and writing ability of the ninth grade Junior High School at an Islamic boarding school in Indonesia. This research aimed to get empirical evidence of the students' vocabulary mastery in relation to their writing ability. The population of this research was 81 students from four classes which contained 7A, 7B, 8A and 9A. There were only 20 students taken as the sample of this study from 9A class. The collected data was analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment correlation. The instruments used were vocabulary and writing tests. The findings of this study revealed that there was a significant relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and their writing ability of the ninth-grade students. The result of this study showed by the coefficient correlation (rxy) was 0.880. With degree of significance 5%, the score of table (rt) obtained was 0.443. Therefore, rxy>rt (0.880>0.443). With these results, it can be seen that these variables are positively correlated. Hence, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between students' vocabulary mastery and their writing ability in the context of junior high school level.
