STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS OF READING DIGITAL TEXTS AT A PRIVATE UNIVERSITY IN INDONESIA
This study explored students' perceptions of reading digital texts at a private university in Indonesia. This research aimed to explore students' perceptions while using digital text in reading activities. Furthermore, the researcher applied a case study as a research design Semi-structure interviews and reflective notes were used to explore students' perceptions of reading digital texts, and then the data were analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings of this study showed several perceptions. Based on the philosophical theory of perception, there were five aspects the perceptions of reading digital texts, the flexibility of digital texts, the effectiveness in reading digital texts, students' motivation or interest in reading digital texts, the preferences for reading digital texts and supplementary visual media, images, and illustrations. Among five aspects, there were three aspects of perception that were discussed more by students, those were flexibility, preference, and supplementary visual media. From the flexibility, most of the students perceived that digital text was very accessible compared to printed texts. In addition, regarding to the preferences, some students were also choose to read with digital texts because they are budget-friendly and have advanced features. In terms of supplementary visual media, most of the students perceived that using digital text with any images and illustrations make it easier to comprehend the texts better. Therefore, this study highlighted the important of students' awareness of the beneficial use of digital text in reading along especially from its features to help improve reading interest, comprehension and skill development.
