THE EFFECTIVENESS OF READING CIRCLE TO TEACH READING COMPREHENSION OF FACTUAL DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS: A PRE-EXPERIMENTAL STUDY AT AN ISLAMIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL
This research was a pre-experimental study using one group pre-test and post-test design. The objective of the study was to find the effectiveness of using academic reading circle technique to teach reading comprehension. The population of this study was the third grade of Islamic junior boarding school. The researcher took female students' class three A and B, totalled 21 students who were selected by purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in this research was a short answer question for reading test. The validity and reliability tests were first tested using SPSS 25 to be taken as pre-test and post-test material. The results of this study showed the average value of the post-test was higher than the pre-test. The pre-test average score was 59.05 and the post-test average score was 86.67. The mean results between the pre-test and post-test showed a difference in the improvement students' reading comprehension. Based on the results of the t-test analysis with SPSS 25 showed the significant value (sig-2 tailed) was 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. It means Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of academic reading circle technique in teaching reading comprehension in the third grade of Islamic junior high school was effective and feasible.
