AN ANALYSIS OF THE STUDENTS' ENGLISH-SPEAKING ANXIETY AT A PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL IN INDONESIA
The purpose of this study was to find out the factors, types, and the level of students' anxiety in speaking English at a private high school in Indonesia. This research employed qualitative research method with case study design. The participants were 10 students who felt anxious while speaking English. The data was collected through interviews and observation. The result of this research showed that there were three factors of anxiety that students faced, namely linguistics, psychology, and external factors. The external factor was the dominant one, from those factors the researcher formulated the types of students' speaking anxiety categorized into the state anxiety factor which focus on linguistics such inadequate vocabulary, lack of grammatical understanding, and inadequate pronunciation, while the external factor were fear of negative evaluation, lack of preparation, and fear of making mistake. For psychology factors the most factors that hindered students were nervous, embrassed, and lack of self-confidence.
Moreover, for the result of the students' speaking anxiety level in this private senior high school was categorized into mild anxiety.
