TEACHING MULTIMODAL NARRATIVE TEXT THROUGH POPULAR ANIMATED FILM: LESSONS LEARNED FROM A HIGH SCHOOL IN INDONESIA
This study explores how teaching multimodal narrative text through popular animated films increases students' understanding and helps teachers contextualize learning. This research was implemented at a high school level. The participants were 25 high school students. The researcher also recruited 4 students to reflect on their learning experiences through popular animated films. Besides, students' reflections, the data was collected through teaching recordings, teaching diaries, and observation. This study used qualitative research with a narrative inquiry design to report experiences and conditions during teaching and learning. The study results showed that using multimodal narrative text through popular animated films has a positive impact, such as increasing students' understanding of the narrative text, getting the message conveyed in the film, and enriching students' experience in learning variation. The students' understanding is shown through several discussions and evaluations related to learning materials in the learning process.
