STUDENTS' PERCEPTION OF THE USE OF ENGLISH-SUBTITLED MOVIE IN IMPROVING PRONUNCIATION
This study was conducted to discover students' perception regarding the use of English subtitled movies in improving pronunciation. This study applied a qualitative research method. The research design employed was case study. The participants were 10 twelfth grade students of Islamic boarding school. The data collection used were students questionnaire and semi-structured interview. This study highlighted students' perception of the use English-subtitled movies to improve English pronunciation. The findings revealed that most of the students have a positive perception towards the use of English-subtitled movies in improving their pronunciation. This positive perception caused by two aspects those are internal and external aspect. Internal aspect including their thought and motivation. Meanwhile, external factor was influenced by environment. This study found that improving pronunciation by using movies with English-subtitles as a learning media helped students learning pronunciation easier and enjoyable. This study also found that students who learned to improve their English pronunciation by using movies with English subtitles were easier to understand than using book or other printed and conventional material sources. Additionally, the use of English subtitled movie as learning media helped students understand the English pronunciation lesson easier and better. This study concluded the importance of implementing English subtitles movie as an interesting, profitable, and effective learning media for English pronunciation learning.
